Abatis barrier/York, Montana

In "Die Trying"

An abatis is an obstacle formed of the branches of trees laid in a row, with the tops directed towards the enemy. The trees are usually interlaced or tied with wire. Abatises are used alone or in combination with wire entanglement and other obstacles. Abatisss are used in war to keep the approaching enemy under fire for as long as possible. Most useful against highly mobilized troops such as horse men.

Militia Commander Beau Borken had laid out a series of these barriers to go along with the natural barriers of mountain ranges and dense forests.

An old deserted mining town, York is a sparsly populated place located in Lewis and Clark County at latitude 46.722 and longitude -111.752.

The area (right) is where an anti-American militia group built a community, including dormitories, an arsenal and other outbuildings in preparation for what the group believed would be an attack by the government taken over by a United Nations power. This is where Reacher and Holly were kept.
